How Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin Got LeBron, Jay-Z, and Tom Brady to Headline the Most Ambitious Event in Sports Fandom

Inside Fanatics Fest 2025: How Michael Rubin Is Revolutionizing Sports Fandom with Star Power, Spectacle, and a $15 Million Bet on the Future

Inside Fanatics Fest 2025 — the $15M Fan-Powered Spectacle That’s Redefining the Future of Sports Culture, Celebrity, and Commerce

In the high-stakes world of sports, few names carry the weight of LeBron James, Jay-Z, and Tom Brady. Even fewer can bring them under one roof — except Michael Rubin. The 52-year-old CEO of Fanatics is doing just that with Fanatics Fest 2025, a three-day sports and culture celebration from June 20–22 at New York’s Javits Center, designed not for profit but for passion.

Despite losing $15 million on the inaugural event last year, Rubin remains unfazed.
“We’re still in investment mode,” he told NYNext. “In the grand scheme of our business, we’re not worried.” With Fanatics projected to hit $12 billion in revenue by 2026, Fanatics Fest isn’t about quick returns — it’s about solidifying the brand’s dominance in every aspect of sports fandom.

A Festival Like No Other

Last year’s Fest drew 72,000 fans. This year, Rubin expects to double that to 150,000, with participation from a staggering lineup of global sports organizations: FIFA, Formula 1, the Premier League, USTA, Nike, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and returning leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, UFC, and WWE.

The celebrity roster is even more jaw-dropping. Jay-Z is bringing a full-scale pop-up 40/40 Club. Tom Brady will headline panels and engage fans in interactive moments. And Victor Wembanyama is flying in from China for a plunge with Kevin Hart on Cold As Balls.

Other confirmed appearances include LeBron James, Travis Scott, Derek Jeter, Charlotte Flair, Livvy Dunne, Henrik Lundqvist, John Cena, and Kevin Costner — an unprecedented mix of elite athletes and pop culture icons converging in one space.

Chaos, Culture, and Community

Rubin promises surprises: “Twenty to thirty stunts that no one knows about.” One confirmed? An unnamed superstar will enter the crowd surrounded by 20 lookalikes, sending fans into gleeful confusion. “We like chaos,” Rubin quips.

It’s a model inspired by the energy of SXSW and Comic-Con, but with one major twist: it’s rooted entirely in sports. “Why don’t we have this for sports?” Rubin asked himself years ago. “There wasn’t anybody else that could convene all the sports properties and athletes… We had to do this.”

From Setbacks to Smarter Experiences

Last year’s biggest hiccup? The VIP access model — allowing badge-holders to skip autograph lines — backfired. “It sucked, it was terrible,” Rubin admits. But this year, logistics are reimagined: from crowd flow and athlete movement to smoother meet-and-greets and on-stage events.

Behind it all is Fanatics’ evolution: what began as an e-commerce site selling NASCAR gear in 2002 now spans sports betting, live events, collectibles, trading cards, and venue stores. Fanatics now serves 10 million+ customers annually and ships over 40 million orders a year.

Why It All Matters

For Rubin, Fanatics Fest is a brand amplifier — not a cash machine. It deepens customer loyalty, energizes partnerships, and offers a rare opportunity to give back to fans who fuel the business.

“This is about creating a sports festival only we can create,” Rubin said. “It’s a great giveback to fans.”

With the global sports industry topping $500 billion, Rubin has carved out a rare position: someone who not only serves fans but celebrates them on the grandest scale imaginable.

Fanatics Fest 2025 is more than just an event — it’s a movement, a spectacle, and a blueprint for the future of how fans engage with the sports and stars they love.
