Spencer Pratt Defends Heidi Montag’s AMAs Wig Amid Backlash: “We Don’t Have a $20K Wig Budget”

After Heidi Montag debuts a bold new bob at the 2025 AMAs, Spencer Pratt hilariously defends her wig, calling on fans to support her upcoming album "Heidiwood" — and future hair budgets.

As fans criticize Heidi Montag’s new look at the 2025 American Music Awards, husband Spencer Pratt claps back with humor and heart, urging fans to support her album “Heidiwood” to help fund future glam.

Spencer Pratt is not letting critics get the last word when it comes to defending his wife, Heidi Montag. After the Hills alum debuted a short blonde bob at the 2025 American Music Awards — a dramatic departure from her signature long hair — fans and social media users wasted no time weighing in. The verdict from some? Not exactly glowing.

But Pratt, 41, who’s never shied away from showing his unwavering support for Montag, 38, had the perfect response.

“For the wig haters, please pre-order Heidiwood now so that future wigs have more budget ❤️🙏,” he wrote on TikTok, responding to a comment that read, “I love love love her, but you should’ve stopped that wig.”

The AMAs look — which saw Montag don a sparkling blue ensemble by THE BLONDS — sparked widespread online chatter, with headlines like Page Six’s “Heidi Montag dragged for wearing ‘world’s worst’ wig to AMAs 2025: ‘From Party City’” making waves. But Pratt saw the bigger picture.

“A lot of people loved the wig. A lot of people didn’t love it so much, but you know what? We’re very thankful to be at the American Music Awards and having anyone talking about Heidi’s hair. What a blessing,” Pratt said in a follow-up TikTok video.

The reality star went on to joke about the realities of glam budgets, noting, “We don’t have [a] $20,000 wig budget. So it’s a cute little wig for the money we can afford. It was just supposed to be a fun little, ‘Oh look at the wig.’ And it worked, I guess.”

Pratt also used the moment to promote Heidiwood, Montag’s upcoming album set for release on May 30, telling fans: “Only 3 days! If you love her, buy the Heidiwood album so she can afford better wigs in the future. Fancy wigs cost like 20k — ask Beyoncé.”

The couple, who share two sons, Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 2, walked the AMAs red carpet together at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas on May 26. Montag’s bold new hair choice certainly made an impression — and that was exactly the point.

“We just thought [we’d] switch it up a little bit and keep it fresh,” Montag told Entertainment Tonight from the AMAs. “I’ve never done this so it’s very exciting, and just a moment.”

Ultimately, Pratt embraced the attention with humor and gratitude: “I’m so thankful that so many people care about Heidi and they want her to look the best she possibly can on a red carpet. A lot of people loved the wig, so it’s all good.”

With Heidiwood on the horizon and a fanbase ready to support, the couple is embracing the spotlight — wig critiques and all.
